Biography

Dr. Akshay Lohitsa graduated from Harvard College with a B.A. in Biology, focusing his research on translational neuroscience while teaching review courses at the Harvard Bureau of Study Council. He obtained his M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School, where he was awarded for his professionalism and humanism. He completed his psychiatry residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center as well as a psychoanalytic fellowship at the New York Psychoanalytic Society and Institute.

During his training, Dr. Lohitsa won the American Psychiatric Association's Mind Games competition, was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society, and served on the Housestaff Quality Council. He has contributed to multiple book chapters, has presented at national conferences and has been awarded by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry. He lectures to OB/GYN, Emergency Medicine, and Psychiatry residency programs at New York Presbyterian Hospital and co-leads the Weill Cornell Community Clinic. He has advanced coursework in the History of Psychiatry, has studied at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience in India, and has helped develop a sustainable free clinic in Quito in conjunction with the Ecuadorian Health Ministry.
